I have worked as a foresight strategist, designer, and researcher for two years at Humanistic, a strategic innovation consultancy based in Toronto.

Together with one of the largest tech companies in the world, Humanistic embarked on a nearly two year-long journey to uncover and define a holistic, comprehensive, and human-centered spatial computing paradigm. The result is a radically new — yet familiar — spatial computing OS and software ecosystem. The journey begins by studying the present as the future is — now. Check out humanistic.ca for more.

As a team, we have conducted an extensive foresight study to uncover fascinating and emergent signals of change, trends, and the forces shaping the world of tomorrow. We then did multiple rounds of in-depth ethnographic research with early adopters, everyday users, and key industry stakeholders at the forefront of the augmented and virtual reality space.

The result was an exhaustive playbook and guideline for how to build the future as a dominant market leader in spatial computing.

My contribution

  • Work on the research map to define an exploration scope that would bring maximum value to stakeholders.
  • Conduct structured investigations, research and examinations related to a number of relevant subjects, audiences, stakeholders, products, industries, markets, customer behaviors, scientific breakthroughs, and/or other related phenomena.
  • Uncover signals of change and trends that are shaping the future of spatial computing.
  • Group and organize data points to be able to perform analysis to synthesize actionable insights and generate recommendations.
  • Discover untapped areas such as technologies, use cases, or customer behaviors, and conduct further research to strenghten references and to contextualize their potential.
  • Perform analysis to synthesize actionable insights from both the desk research and ethnographic interviews.
  • Group synthesized insights into themes in order to have a big picture view of the entire space.
  • Employ futures thinking and generate provocative future narratives and scenarios that are rich in intellectual property and innovative technologies and/or behaviors.
  • Work on a multi-modal interaction model with hand gestures and many different devices for the future of spatial interactions.
  • Sketch and vectorize the hand gestures in a high-quality, clear and easy to understand, easy to use, and human-centric manner.
  • Express and transform the synthesized knowledge and the multi-modal interaction model into high quality, aesthetically pleasing book layouts designed with Affinity Publisher.
